How to follow a Sketch - July 2022

How to Follow a sketch - July 2022

This sketch is certainly completely different to the actual DT layout I put together using this design..

The biggest change would be that my DT layout I used cut out stars as a shaker element, but here I've used a star stencil on top of a white cardstock base for a flatter style feature.

(Check out my original DT layout blog post here)

Let me know what you think!
Thanks for your time, Happy Scrapping..

Let's Get Sketchy July - Wonderful

Wonderful

From the moment I saw this sketch, I knew I wanted to use the Uniquely Creative - Mind Over Matter collection to complete a layered page with shaker stars.
I added some extra layers (red cardstock) for extra strength and stability.
I decided to use only one central photo mat and use the two other small photo mat positions for cluster bases instead.

It's been hard with the rain and cool temps here in central Queensland lately to get a decent photo for this layout, so I bring it to you a couple days late. I do apologise for the lighting issues.

Make sure you keep watch here on blogger or fb crafty page for another interruption of the same sketch with a different paper collection that I put together for inspiration too.

It's a boy thing - Let's Get Sketchy DT

This layout was so fun to make.
Offering plenty of layer options and even open for interruption on how to shade the bottom half of the layout.

Of course I dove straight in with a stencil and ink blending brushes..
My fav trusty stencil from Carta Bella featuring a foliage design works so perfectly with this Dino themed collection.

Uniquely Creative cut apart sheet for title

I used a Forrest Green first and then finished off with some random Brown blending too, just to add a depth element. I knew I wanted to add layers with the pattern paper, so needed to even out and continue on subtly the depth with the bottom part of the layout also.

Here are plenty of close up photos to enjoy.. You can see the fussy cut piece and the layers I used to create the layout.

How to follow a sketch - May 2022

My intentions for these videos each month is to use a fairly similar thought process I used with my original DT project, but to change up the theme of the layout. So since my DT layout features Hunter on the beach, this one I've decided to use The Story Garden collection - Uniquely Creative..
Sketches can be adapted to suit your own style, theme or photos for any project. And just looking through the other DT's incredible works definitely shows that!
How To Follow A Sketch - May 2022

Each month for Let's Get Sketchy I will be sharing some very basic videos on how to follow a sketch.

These layouts will be a separate and second layout created based on the challenge sketch for the month.

Vacation Time - Let's Get Sketchy DT

VACTION TIME

As soon as I saw this sketch, I knew I wanted to do something special with some rub-ons.
So I grabbed the 49 & Market - Beached collection and went to work..
I honestly fell down the rabbit hole with this layout and wanted to keep going and going... lol
The more the eyes wonder over this layout, the more you'll find.

-- PROGRESS PHOTOS - PUTTING THE LAYOUT TOGETHER --

To make sure the triangles are all the same size, I made myself a little template.
3 1/4" x 4 rectangle piece of scrap.
3 1/4 - tall
on the top edge, measure in 2" and place a pencil dot (center).
Then cut from each bottom corner to the center dot on the top edge to create the triangle.

Mark little dots / lines on the left side of the triangles and then remove. These are simple marker dots so you have a guide on where to place the rub-ons so they look like they are partly behind the pattern paper triangles.

I really enjoyed the layering of the rub-ons.. However, I did make a little mistake - can you spot it? lol

To make sure I got the triangles laid straight across the layout, I used a T Ruler..

Sup Bro - Let's Get Sketchy DT

Thank you for joining me again this month.. I am absolutely blown away by all of the incredible creativity shared during my first month on the DT at Let's Get Sketchy, I'm sure you'll all love this sketchy too! There is plenty of inspiration by the whole DT to get you started if you need..

'SUP BRO

My layout this month features a fun Skater Boy photo of my youngest son a few years ago. This "AWESOME" collection from Lady Pattern Paper fit this sketch and the feel for this layout so perfectly for me.

I decided to do something different and base my layout on a BLACK cardstock background.
I am honestly so glad I did, as it really highlights all of the other colours in this collection and grounded it all together.

Of course it wouldn't be one of my layouts if I didn't add to the design and make it suit my style.. I threw some extra layers in there and embellishment clusters.

As we all know far too well, I really dispise Fussy Cutting... However, I do it because adding it to layouts really make it all pop and worth every very looooong minutes it takes.. lol
